CAMPUS GRAFENAU

DIGITALISATION, AI & BIG DATA

As a centre for applied research at Deggendorf Institute of Technology (DIT), the Grafenau Campus brings together the DIT’s expertise in four interdisciplinary research fields: ‘Smart Region’ (Digital Village), ‘Business Data Analytics & Optimisation’, ‘Applied Artificial Intelligence’ and ‘Artificial Intelligence for Context & Activity Recognition’. These research fields address the major challenges of our time: digitalisation in industry and society, urbanisation and sustainability.

about the campus grafenau

In close cooperation with trade and industrial companies, municipalities and research institutions, the highly qualified team of approx. 40 employees works on future-oriented projects such as digitalisation in rural areas, industry 4.0, reduction of food waste, sensor data analyses and fraud detection. Core competencies include algorithm and app development, database and cloud technologies, material flow optimisation, statistical data analysis and machine learning. The Campus Grafenau is committed to the Bavarian Forest region and pursues its vision of demonstrating, strengthening and further developing its diverse potential: Silicon Forest.

fields of activity

Data is often referred to as the oil of the 21st century. Like oil, data is just a raw material that needs to be cleaned and refined and is worthless without application.

With a team of experiences experts from various fields, the "Business Data Analytics & Optimization" reserach group carries out application-oriented research projects to refine data, extract knowledge and transfer this knowledge to companies, public administration and the general public and make it sustainably useful for them.

We help you formulate the right questions, identify the relevant data and data sources, integrate them and transform them into information and knowledge with the help of innovative tools.

Our spectrum ranges from the use of classical statistic methods and data mining to machine learning, simulation and optimisation algorithms. Our focus is on the development of user-friendly solutions characterised by intelligents human-machine interaction.

Typical fields of application are demand forecasts, analysis and optimisation of inventories, analysis of machine data, optimisation of machine settings and production parameters, analysis of clickstream data, production planning and value stream analyses.

With applied methods of Artificial Intelligence we are able to raise unused data treasures. We develop solutions to derive business-relevant proposals for action from your data, e.g. in personnel planning or demand forecasting. We focus on direct economic benefits and smooth integration into established business processes.

The goal of the fourth focus area "Artificial Intelligence for Context and Activity Recognition" is to motivate people in need of care to lead active lifestyles and thus to enable them to lead self-determined lives at home for as long as possible.

To this end, we are developing body-worn and ambient sensor systems whose data we evaluate using artificial intelligence methods. On the one hand, such systems can be used to continuously collect relevant health markers and thus provide forecasts on the state of health of those in need of care. On the other hand, they are designed to detect acute emergencies and ensure that everything is in order. This way, these systems help to make the care system more efficient and relieve the burden on nursing staff.

For centuries, rural areas have been the centre of people's lives and work. As a result of urbanisation, it is increasingly disappearing from the global public consciousness, the city has asserted itself. Rural regions are often left behind - mobility, medical care and access to education are limited and the quality of life correspondingly diminished.

We feel connected to our region and therefore develop strategies for rural areas: intelligent - innovative - integrative - digitally networked.

The aim is to make the best possible use of the opportunities offered by digitisation to meet the everyday challenges of life in rural areas - holistically, across generations and for all sections of the population.

Our spectrum includes sustainable optimisation measures and digital solutions for practical applications. Our strength lies in the analysis, design and development of digital everyday helpers. Our interdisciplinary team develops tailor-made concepts in close cooperation with the population, local authorities and companies.

Regional sustainability is achieved through the development of joint, long-term research projects. Cost reduction, efficiency increase, service improvement and the formation of regional networks are the tools of the modern and attractive rural area of the future.

projects

Our fields of activity include market-oriented offers, which we tailor to the needs of our customers, clients and development partners.

Here you will find a wide range of technology and consulting services for various functional areas in companies and organisations as well as development solutions for specific industries. Our services reflect the current state of research. We are neutral, objective and not fixed on a specific solution. Experts from various fields work together and develop cross-sectional solutions. Upon request, we integrate students into ongoing projects in order to qualify them for specific companies and projects.

studies & publications

The following publications database provides an overview of the publications of the members of the Technology Campus Grafenau. You can search by author, organisational unit and publication type as well as by free text entry.

software and downloads

clickstream

The R package clickstream can be used to analyse clickstream data as it is generated in online shops. Besides a prediction of the next clicks, a segmentation of customers based on their click history as well as a visualisation of the click behaviour of customers are possible.

License: GPL-2

Link: https://cran.r-project.org/package=clickstream

hypercube

The R package hypercube allows the application of typical OLAP operations to multidimensional data in R. Furthermore, various characteristic values of multidimensional data can be calculated and the data can be visualised by means of parallel coordinate plots.

License: GPL-3

Link: https://cran.r-project.org/package=hypercube

matman

The R package matman contains numerous functions for material management. In particular, functions are implemented to perform an ABC and ABC/XYZ analysis to identify products that "perform" above or below average and to predict temporal developments of products.

License: GPL-3

Link: https://cran.r-project.org/package=matman

ShinyQuickStarter

ShinyQuickStarter is an add-in for RStudio and allows the easy creation of Shiny apps by means of an interactive graphical user interface. The Shiny apps can already be structured modularly and their appearance and navigation can be adapted.

License: GPL-3

Link: https://cran.r-project.org/package=ShinyQuickStarter

WordOfMouth

WordOfMouth is an R package that can be used to predict various economic variables for word-of-mouth campaigns. Thus, an estimation of the profit-maximum price depending on the intensity of word of mouth as well as an estimation of the demand is possible.

License: GPL-3
